I have just scored myself a brew box to keep my brew warm in the coming winter. As its white rubbish time again I picked up an old fridge and stripped it. My 30l FV fits and looks tiny in it. Means I need more vessels. My problem is the airlock is too high to fit under the lid. Can I plumb a remote airlock providing the top of it is higher than the top of the FV?

You don't need an airlock.

But if you insist, you could get one of the youngs ones that look like this

Your idea will work as well, as long as you can get a seal.

On a second thought all i should need is a jar full of water that the hose goes into. I was just worried about unwanted syphoning. I just need to put the jar on the floor beside it. The plan is to get several more FVs in there and they can all use the same jar then.
