Hey, decided to dish out £20 on what I thought would be decent ETI probe thermometer, with stainless braided lead, which I thought would be useful for leaving in the boil...I thought I was getting a decent one, seeing as at a local cooking shop known for its inflated prices, thermometers are like £8. Anywho, after first usage during one kit brew, to test boiler temp (didnt leave it in), and to test CFC output temp, the bloody thing stopped working, measures my house to have ambient temp of 40c, and apparently my ice cold tap water is 30c.
Can anyone recommend a thermometer that isn't a piece of junk? I mean, I've heard they sometimes need recalibrating, but I always assumed that meant like, after 2-3 years its off by a couple of degrees...I don't want something thats going to read 5-10c off the actual temp out of the box.
Has anyone tried the infrared/laser ones?
