I used to drink lager when out and its been many years since i downed several pints of Hartleys best bitter on a night out, i did try Hobgoblin from a keg my son bought but i was not that impressed, with that in mind and as the title says Recommend me a beer.

I can get to both Tesco and Booths so will get a couple of bottles (or more) of what is recommended tomorrow to celebrate Monday off.

I have just seen a thread in sales and limited offers about Brewdog Dead Pony and 5 a.m in Tesco, am i likely to like these?

BTW i do not like Guinness.

Dead pony is decent, not too strong and a bit hoppy. I'm liking wolf rock red ipa at the moment, more on the malty side.... other nice ones I've tried of late include marstons strong pale ale, st peters ruby red and blue monkeys bg sips

This is one of marsdon's better brews.

hobgoblin is better in a bottle than a supermarket keg. it's a different recipe 4.5% vs 5.2%

maybe a leffe blonde as a starter into belgian beers?

badgers:
golden champion - tangeriny
golden glory - peachy/melony

If you like hoppy beers then Brewdog fits the bill.
I quite like Marstons EPA, fruity and light.

Hobgoblin gold, really like it. A lot lighter than hobgoblin and maybe a bit too easy drinking.

Tescos own ipa was good too.
Don't forget most major stores are closed tomorrow too.

Not sure how many they'll have in English Tescos but I'm loving Black Isle Brewery at the moment. Both Red Kite and Yellowhammer are fairly commonly sold in Tesco up here.

Yep, I'd agree with all those, though easy on the Leffe !

If you can find it, try Ceasar Augustas lager/IPA hybrid. Yeah, I was a bit sceptical, but it is a really flavoursome brew and not too daft at 4.2 %. We have it in our Co-op up here but I have seen it elsewhere. Defo worth a try....

That's my problem i haven't a clue what i like as i have been a lager drinker all my life, the hobgoblin i had about a month ago was the first beer i have had in about 15 years.

I forgot about the shops being closed, oh well next weekend it will be.

Thanks to all above, so far on the list -

Brewdog - Dead Pony & 5 a.m.

Hobgoblin Gold.

Yallowhammer.

Red Kite.

Badgers - Golden champion & Golden glory.

Marstons EPA.

Tesco tend to have three for a fiver on the ales quite often. Best bet if you don't know what you like would be walk along the shelf and pick a few at random.

Had a bottle in the week (got another in the fridge). I found it tasteless and nothing like the normal one.

Load of suggestions here. How about 13 Guns?

i would add the beers that got me off lager..... Sierra nevada pale ale, Goose island pale ale, hobgoblin gold, Leffe blonde

as a lifetime lager drinker i found all the above to be extremely enjoyable, you might prefer them a bit on the cold side (more "lagery") but let them warm a little, so they are chilled but not cold ( i still dont enjoy them "warm" ) and if your experience is like mine you will never look back

Badgers Golden Glory is peachy so just bare that in mind as I think it can be a bit marmite with people.

But the lighter Badgers are quite good like tanglefoot golden champion and hopping hare

Hobgoblin gold and maybe ringwood Boon dongle??

Tbh I havn't bought many commercials for a long long time

How about Sharps Doom Bar or Atlantic both easy drinking with a bit of a citrus hit which is not overpowering. I can get both from my local small Tesco.

sadlers hop bomb,if you like them citrus and hoppy you wont better this around £1.65 a bottle usually but have picked them up for less, highley recommended.as hoptoit says hobgoblin gold too, wonderful ale
as regards supermarket deals Asda is unbeatable 4 for a fiver

Tesco around here open till 24:00 - theres still time if you've not had a few already!

If you're coming from the direction of a lager drinker, then for sure try Redron's recommendation:
Williams' Caesar Augustus. Lager-like clean taste - no strong malty or yeasty-estery flavours. Just clean, crisp light malt and a decent hit of very flavoursome hops. You'll love it! (well, I do! :))

Doombar is definatly a easy drinking nd non-offensive to get you started on your hipster-craft-artisan-bespoke-ale journey

Bang on MyQul. I'm definitely not a fan of the brewdog, American hop forward beers but I do like a subtle hint of fruit and citrus in beer and Sharps seem to have nailed it.
