my refractometer needs re-calibrating as it was giving a different figure to my hydrometer after FG. Now the question is I do not have the correct water to re-calibrate it so the hypothetical ( may be daft) question is if my hydrometer is giving me a correct reading can I not calibrate my hydrometer to this using a brix conversion table (post fermentation inc alcohol) so that it reads the same or is this not feasible

You only need a few drops of distilled water. You should be able to catch enough steam from a boiling kettle in a cool glass.

How different were the FG readings? Was this brew different from your usual? My FG figures are usually a few points apart due to the brix to sg with alcohol conversion being an estimate based on an experimental model.
