I know this topic has been discussed a few times and that the debate over where to use 40mm or 38mm for kettle elements rages on.

Well when I build my HLT/Copper I used a 40mm and it caused no end of problems! way too big for the element and I had to use a load of 0-rings etc to resolve the leaking. Well after my mare with the hop filter on my last brew I have decided to pull my finger out and finally convert the Nordic pot I have sitting around into a dedicated HLT.

So this time I was keen not to make the same mistake. So I've read the forums and it seems that the 38mm option is the way to go :)

Or is it? I've done some searching and it seems that 38mm cutters are rarer that rocking horse... you get the idea.

BUT

There does seem to be an abundance of 37.5mm cutters! These are a few quid these cutters so I want to get it right!

So finally my question...

Will a 37.5mm work, has anyone else used one? Or do I need to hold out for a 38mm?

Is there anyone in the Cardiff area that I could borrow one from for an afternoon? :thumb:

Ok this was more than one question but hey ho :)

:drink:

The only way to know what size hole to cut is to measure the element properly. I've cut 40mm holes and never had any problems, but I'm pretty sure the 38mm ones would prove a 'better' fit.
