Not only did I use wheat malt but I used oats :wha: after a thread by Darcey. I had to use some challenger as I didn't have enough hops. Anyway initial tastes are spot on. Also ended up with 1065 instead of 1058 which I put down to those Crisp's Marris Otter malt.

I never intended it to be an exact clone I always put my own mark on it

Looks lovely !

I'm brewing !!! At last !!! Chinook smells awesome !! First brew in over a month !

Bottle was posted yesterday !
Good luck and if a winner needs someone to take on the brewery tour give me a shout :D

No Rick I didn't but the one i made is probably the best beer i have made in a long time. The oat was a suprisingly good addition helped with lacing and head retention more than wheat malt on its own. Going to use it in my next bitter :thumb:

Anyone else actually enter? And if you did have you heard anything?

:wha:

I didn't enter mine, but it turned out to be a cracking pint :thumb: I've just got 2 bottles left and will be definitely doing the same recipe again. They were to notify the winner on 3rd July.

I checked the brew uk forum and tasting has been postponed until Friday 13th July - so fingers crossed for me still !!

Well I didn`t win :D but some nice feedback;

great aroma
good beer
lacks body

:) so maybe us05 wasn`t the best yeast choice - my next clone will definetly be with recovered yeast from a PJ bottle - this could make all the difference as yeast really is key :geek:

Mine has plenty of body with us-05, must be the oats.

 I think the brewery have got it all wrong - i may try a PJ with half wheat and half pale malt and some porridge oats chucked in for good measure

:thumb:

Southerners what do you expect

All beer should have at least 5% wheat malt. :D :D

Having said that most of the bitters I like and clone are southern.........................

I just make them Northern with wheat malt and my new friend oats.

The Oats made for fantastic lacing in the glass. :thumb:

I'd say rye is even better. Just use flakes, not malt, otherwise you'd experience all horrors when sparging.

Yes, I am a rye addict. :D

Even though I'm a southerner I love a bit of head!!

Oats and wheat are very dominant in my bitter brews and I have been using crystal rye which gives an amazing sweet toffee liquorice flavour - great in a classic bitter ! Many of my bitters have oats, oat malt or wheat up to 25% of the grist,

I love beer !

I think all us red blooded males could say that, no need to make the thread off topic! :-o:grin:
