Hi all, i have been using this most excellent forum for quite a while now so thought i better introduce myself.
I started brewing when i was 15 after watching Lizzie making Grogg on Prisoner Cell Block H hehe  .That was back in the late 80's early 90's . my first brew consisted of 1ltr blackcurrant cordial, 2kg sugar, 40pints of water and some brewers yeast from boots hehe  . suffice to say my first atempts didn't go too well. My next atempt was a Lager kit bought from boots that may have been good had i only used 1 bag of sugar !!!!!!! I thought 1 bag was a pound and 2 bags 2 pound =1 kilo( i know i should have read the bag but i was young, couldn't legally buy alcohol but could legally brew it hehe ) anyway that brew was bloody awfull. But one lucozade bottle of it had me legless  . I then had a break from brewing for several years untill the mid to late 90's. Now slightly older i tried again with a lager kit from boots but this time read the instructions and followed it exactly. Again a better brew but still just homebrew. and you could tell!!! I stopped brewing beer and just made wine as i had many a gallon of excellent results from that, so stuck with it. Then in 2011 i got the brewing kit out of the loft ( same F.V. i bought when i was 15) and made a BREWFERM TARWEIBER. OMG i cracked it , what a drink!!! Since then i have made probably 10 -15 kits mostly different types. What i would say to anybody thinking of starting out, is if you want to make lagers DO NOT use table sugar. Use a beer enhancer which you should find near too the kit if you bought it from a shop..... By the way Morrisons and Bevans are selling kits very cheaply at the moment .
Happy brewing to all :
