Ok I know this is going to seem like a dumb question. I have been homebrewing for a few years and only ever done bottle conditioning as have only just had the space to expand my set up. Now have a garage and purchased a pressure barrel and a cornie keg. I was hoping to have a co2 cylinder sorted by now but will not be arriving for a while. (my mate runs a bar and is ordering me a cylider) I now have a IPA ready to carbonate but not sure what to do with a pressure barrel as never used one before. I have a s30 valve and s30 gas. My question is do you carbonate with the s30 gas (it says to use no more than 1 second burst) will this be enough co2 to carbonate the beer or do I need to prime with sugar and then add the gas?

Can someone give me some pointers on how to use the barrel effectivley as can not find info online

Ta

Any help welcome.

You can either prime with sugar, or you can use the gas. Just add 2oz of sugar after you've racked the beer into the barrel.

You may still need the gas when you're starting to run out of beer though to get the last bits out.

When using a pressure barrel I prime the keg with sugar then after conditioning there should be enough carbonation in the keg to serve half the keg then use the s30 in a 1/2 second blast as required to serve the rest of the beer.

You can't carbonate the beer in a plastic keg as there not capable of holding the pressure required for carbonating your beer
hope this helps.
