I used to have a copy of Dave Line's Book called 'Brewing Beers Like those you buy' and I'm sure there was a recipe for Pompey Royal in there! I could be wrong... :hmm: perhaps someone on here might still have a copy ...and perhaps post the recipe on here for you :thumb:

Whitbreads Pompey Royal - Ex Brickworks Best Bitter

For 23 L

2800g Pale Malt
250g Crystal Malt (Say Around 100Lovibond)
500g Barley Syrup
500g Soft Dark Brown Sugar

60g Fuggles Hops - (90 Minutes)
30g Bramling Cross ( 90 Minutes)
15g Goldings (90 Minutes)
15g Goldings ( 15 Minutes)

I've dropped the Syrup for more pale and dropped the fuggles from 60g a bit as well

Hi All

Just about to do this after a mate was getting all dewy-eyed about Whitbread's PR but suprised as to the hop quotient: this is gonna be one bitter beer (55-60 IBU)! Thoughts anyone? Should I tame it a bit (ie back off on the bittering and increase aroma) or did PR taste like that?!

Cheers
Si
