Topped it up to 5l as it was a bit thick and it is still to think to take a reading as the hydro just sort of gets stuck in the trail jar .

Going to give it another day to finish breaking down as its all pulp about 10% of the skins are left so I will a the yeast tomorrow morning . But as I don't know how much sugar is already in there so not sure how much to add with out a reading.

So for 1.5kg of plums how much to add for a 12%ish wine

plum sugar content vairy from about 6% to 12%

I would guess yours are about 9-10%

I think you want about a kilo of sugar per gallon total

so about 8-900g would be my guess, I may be wrong tho

I am sure someone will be along soon with a better answer

why not try to strain off some liquid from the pulp
just through a tea strainer, you only need 100ml for trial

thanks

i will see if can take a reading in the morning now i have watered it down. i did drop the hydro in the jar a few times. got a .070, .020, .990 and .010 . so if i get the same tomorrow i will take a any readings cloes to what i got today i will work from that.

what is the maths for sugar(grams) to a litre to %.
i have 65g to a litre per 1%

but not sure where i got that from
what is the sugar(grams) to 10 points on the hydro

ok so if i go for 85g to the litre i wont be far off. so 400gish . iv got 3kg of sugar in the house

10% on 1.5kg of plum is about 150 grams of sugar

like I said before I think you will be looking at adding
about 800 or 900 grams to the whole batch (5 litre)

Just been given some plums that look exactly like yours. Need a good recipe to make a dry wine. JK suggests this. ..

6 lbs plums
1-1/2 lbs fine granulated sugar
Water to one gallon
1-1/2 tsp acid blend
1 tsp pectic enzyme
3/4 tsp yeast nutrient
1/4 tsp yeast energizer
1/8 tsp grape tannin
wine yeast

Any variations anybody has I'd appreciate before I get cracking :)

yeast and every thing is now in so it's in the hands of the brewing god
so 850g total added

well its started my fv had its lid pushed up and iv got a thick layer of pulp on the top. so iv knocked it back so it dont form a hard crust

I've not quite the weight required in the gift of the bag of Victoria plums. I have just found some damsons however on a little foraging expedition. Anyone know if it wouldn't be ok to combine the 2 varieties?

sure, I have a recipe for 5 plum wine, it suggests quantities of each plum
but also states that any quantity of any plum will be ok :thumb:
