Plug in immersion heater

If I make a 10 litre brew I have used a pot direct on the cooker. Sadly, the bottom got warped using it to make jam so it now doesn’t work on my hob. I’m thinking of using one of these to heat up the initial 12 litres of wort. My question is, would it be powerful enough?

There are special elements for brewing LWD or even ULWD..........

"ULWD elements prevent the wort from being scorched or caramelized as the heat output is only 50W per square inch (7.8W per square cm) or less. ULWD also provides added safety as the element will not break instantaneously if fired "dry" (not immersed in water) by accident. Mistakes do happen so we recommend that ULWD elements be used whenever possible instead of LWD, especially when the element is in contact with wort. The high performance nickel-chromium 804 stainless steel alloy sheath used on these elements provides additional strength to resist dry firing."

Two small elements would give you more control than one, big element. 3kW is way too much for a rolling boil but does heat the wort more quickly.

Thanks. I've got an LWD in my big boiler but was hoping to skimp on the little one!! I wasn't aware of ULWD.

I warped an empty cheap SS pot on an induction hob. I flattened it back down with a hammer!
