Hello from a complete novice!!

My boss is in the process of starting up a microbrewery (6bbl) and has tasked me with finding out all the information from start to finish.

Now, so far so good I'm not doing too bad, especially for a complete novice in the brewing stakes (although worked for Guinness at Park Royal from 1980-1984 but in admin, not brewing!).

I hope there may be some of you out there that are willing to help answer some of my (more stoopid  ) questions and pleas for help and advice?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi there, there are some very knowledeable peeps on here so I'm sure we'll be able to help!

Just a question though, and don't take this the wrong way - so has your boss decided to set up a microbrewery without any prior knowledge of the craft? :wha:

My commercial rate for consultation is £1000 per day plus expenses

:D Ah - nice friendly people so far, thank you!

Ceejay - he's not quite in the 'novice' bracket, but will be needing help and lots of it as it will be his first brewery, but is looking into a training session, reading the Microbrewers' Guidebook and anything else I'm shoving at him.

It's really just getting everything off the ground time - premises, brewery, training etc.

LeMan - thank you, why - you're a bargain ;)

Take a look at The Brew Lab courses at the University of Sunderland. They do a 5 day commercial brewing course . . .which covers both brewing and the business side. . . It makes my rates look cheap :D

I'll do it for £600/day + expenses. :D
 Now you're talking.

Cheers guys :drink: Cheers

So today I'm now compiling a Girlies Glossary of Brewing Terms. So far it's on just the two pages.... and growing. This is for when I talk to breweries and suppliers, so I don't come over so obviously the novice.

And now I think I'm gonna ask Bossman for a payrise

Where is it going to be, as I am just down the coast in Sunny Southsea..

I'll let the guys above fight over the consultation, but happy to be put down for tasting duties :thumb:

Wow that looks like your jumping in the deep end, good luck.
Yep - I just do the research  Boss-man will be the brewmeister, but I am thinking of suggesting a beer named after me (when he's got it right of course).

Finished my glossary now, I actually found that a really useful document to do and now when I'm speaking to suppliers etc. things are beginning to make a bit more sense now :geek:

I can do it for half that £500 per day........... but I probably know less than 1% Aleman knows :D

<smilie of hero worship bowing and grovelling>
I think I am not worthy of the Aleman - or any of you for that matter with your very kind offers :thumb:

ill do it for a tenner and a free lunch but i dont know anything
youve probably already learned more than i know :D

You're on, too! I'm sure you know more than me though.

Odd how I found myself down the beer aisle of the supermarket on Sunday morning, spent a good little while checking out all the different beers. I normally do that in the wine and ciders section, my (current problably) preferred tipples

OMG, is this my future

Hi, we're currently deciding on premises (or rather the builder's helping us decide with his quotes), but likely either here in Southampton or out Romsey way.

I'll give you a shout when the first batch is ready for tasting :thumb:

You picked a winner of a site to check out for this little project, that's for sure :)

Welcome to the site, and I am looking forward to following the progress of this endeavor
