Chap I know was a plumber for an old couple for years. The old chap died and the woman asked him to have a look in the workshops to see what he wanted before she got rid..amongst various cars and vintage motor bikes was a RS Cosworth with a couple of hundred miles on the clock. He declined her offer and got her to get some advice!
I had one of the original RS Turbo Escorts (the white ones with the big blue stripe). It came with a few features that showed it was a version 1 car - exhaust only had brackets at the back so it came loose and they had to retrofit brackets at the front. The doors drooped and had to be re-aligned every six months or so. Using the windscreen washer jets made the engine stutter, needed to have a capacitor retro fitted across the pump. Apart from those things it went like stink.

anyone remember these. before this was invented i was the channel changer. "joey change the channel!"
not too long ago it occurred to me that these never needed new batteries. then i realized its because they had none.
a quick google search revealed that they worked via high pitch ultrasonic frequency or something. pretty neat.
i also remember the channel selector only went up not down. to go down you had to go all the way around but fortunately there were only three channels and pbs . so it didnt take too long to get back to the channel you intended. lol
We had something similar (I also remember having a remote that had a wire trailing back to the TV) but ours you could go up and down channels. At one point we get fed up of my mam constantly increasing and decreasing the volume so we took the batteries out. She didn't know anything was wrong (despite constantly pressing the volume up and down buttons) until she tried to change the channel. We were evil kids

As a kid, I can remember making a remote control for my B&W portable.
Tabacco tin with a toggle switch wired to cut the power. Tucked in the mattress. What could possibly go wrong
I remember those when video came out.
