Quite literally! was walking the dog and saw someone had put an old brown pressure barrel out with the rubbish.

Just to make sure it was indeed rubbish I knocked the door and was told that it was left behind when they moved in an I was welcome to it.

It still had some of an old brew which was now vinegar so it sitting with steriliser in it, is that the right thing to do?

It also needs a new tap and the thread is larger than the youngs pressure barrels but I think King Kegs use taps with a larger thread so its probably that size.

If I can get it back to a usable state I'll be delighted so any other tips would be great.

Bonus find :thumb:

I would let it sit overnight with some oxy clean in it before sterilising.

yep and the day after you've cleaned and sterilised it ... do it again.

Good find, I'm never that lucky.

Measure up the hole diameter for the tap, I've got a spare drum tap from a king keg in the cupboard I'll measure that up and that way you'll know if they are the right type before ordering, only a fiver or so off fleabay, including a new tap seal :)

Probably also worth replacing the O ring in the cap as well once you're happy it's sterile :)

Edit: -

The KK taps are 1", 25mm.

If your hole is that diameter it might be worth looking around for a good hard ware place and finding out how much a 1" BSP ball valve is, just don't get a ferrous one ;)

Thanks for measuring that for me, yes I'll most likely replace the cap anyway for one which takes CO2 but I have a spare cap which is new and fits anyway.

I've also just won a Boots pressure barrel with 4" cap and CO2 valve for 99P on ebay which I'm collecting this evening so I'm doing OK I think! :thumb:
