Came in from work last week to find Mrs oldstout on her hands and knees in the living room shouting for me to come quickly.....

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: I thought

:hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

''Get your arris in here oldstout and grab a large towel'' came the cry........ :? :? :? :?

:hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Needless to say, what greeted me was not QUITE what I was hoping to see

My KingKeg with my dark brown brew in it (keep reading - you won't believe what it was  ) which had started secondary fermentation five days earlier - had the tiniest split that was whizzing an even tinier fountain of beer onto the living room carpet, and had been all day by the looks of things

IMAG0082.jpg

Around twenty one pints in total, soaked into the living room friggin' carpet ffs..... :x :x :x :x :x :x

Whatever I was thinking Mrs oldstout was up to when I walked in  disappeared quicker than Beep Beep the roadrunner with an Acme weight bearing down on him

............she was not her usual 'pleased to see me' self (strange 'cos she'd just been to the supermarket for the previous two and a half hours) :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Good news is, while she continued the clean up operation :thumb: I put the keg on the patio, chucked 20 bottles in the bath to sterilise and managed to bottle 19 pints from the keg :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

To say I'm gutted would be putting it mildly :( I mean, 21 pints lost to my living room carpet - and it supped the friggin' lot - the greedy git  :drunk:

That was only the SECOND EVER BREW I've done in that keg

They'll be hearing from me shortly ;)

Now then.......

I know you're dying to hear exactly what the brew was

:hmm:

Ready?

Milestone............

OLD HOMEWRECKER

I may just sue

Unlucky mate.

Will the carpet clean or is it a new one?

I has a similar problem with a keg a few weeks ago, at least mine was In the shed out of arms way. Lol

Sorry to hear about your diaster. I hope the remaining 19 pints mature well and taste teriffic. At least she spotted it before the whole lot had gone.

There is nothing worse than seeing your beer disappear. I have had to chuck away 3 x 12 gallon brews over the last few years it is devastating.

There is only one thing for it............

Get another kit on :thumb: :thumb:

And while you are it it this surely gives compelling evidence that you need to build a brewing shed :hmm: :hmm:

Excellent idea, although I would let Mrs Oldstout "cool off" for a few days first

I knew you lot would understand

Brewing shed GA :hmm: :hmm:

I'd probably blow the roof off in a day

After a hard days decorating and carpet cleaning    I opened one of my Homewrecker pints

Bliddy lush mind!! :drink: :drink:

hope you ain't tempting fate, after all the cleaning, make the fate of home wrecker do it's job

IT'S NOT ALL BAD............

Popped into my LHBS for supplies yesterday and asked if they had an address or number/email for KingKeg manufacturer as I'd searched t'internet with no joy whatsoever and I needed to complain about it splitting :wha:

'What's up oldstout?'

'Me keg split and spilt all ower the carpet.....'

'Ooooooof, worra barsteward, that's bad news. Bring it in, we'll send it off back to them, and replace it with a new one - it happens occasionally and they will send a replacement, no problem - *it's the least we can do for the entertainment you give us on THBF'*

Now THAT...... is the advantage of using your LHBS

Took the sting out of my tale I can tell you

:thumb:

* I might have made that last bit up.........

Nice result!!

I'm a big fan of supporting your LHBS whenever you can - and this is one of the reasons why :drink: :drink: :drink:

Dispite what the manufacturers say about faulty kegs (000.1% returned) I have found this to be not true. I have four KK Top Taps and two have been returned with splits in them. Dont get me wrong, when set up correctly they are very good, but you always have to take care. If you are secondary fermenting inside your house, as I do, place them in a garden trug (BandQ £6.95). It saves a lot of hassle if it does split.
On a side note, one of my KK had a split so wide you could post a letter through it. My LHBS changed it straight away, guess what...the new one also had a split...LHBS owner is now getting a bit embarassed.
Which begs the question...Why dont the manufacturers pressure test them before they send them out?

:hmm:

Interesting point that, would have thought they'd be tested....

Where does the pressure relief valve come in - did it fail (somehow)?
Got one KK top tap, so far had only two brews in but no prob.
Got the S30 valve. Should I be worried (perhaps be careful when upping the priming sugar?

Got the exact same S30 valve on mine klaus ;) I know it works because I inadvertantly gave it a tad more gas than necessary when I had my Wherry in it - it released the excess pressure straight away via the valve on the lid. It can only be, the split in my KK went before the pressure was great enough to vent through the valve

WHICH IS JUST UNLUCKY.....

Splits in King Kegs have nothing to do with the pressure valve. Its a fault in the moulding process.

Yip :thumb: pretty much what my LHBS said, it happens, and KK will replace like for like apparently.

I just need a day off to get mine taken back......

Sorry to hear that OS, I once had a leak on a budget keg tap, not nice.. :(

If funds allow you'd be better with cornies!! :thumb:
