This is really a beer that anyone who likes lagers should brew, it's a great pint and gives you the satisfaction of producing a historic beer. I use cornmeal from Tesco, and this was my last go around, I've got about 15 bottles left and each one is nicer than the last :D
 
Yes, to be fair, I'm lazy and use flaked maize! At some point maybe I'll have enough ambition to use grits and a cereal mash for authenticity. But as Ed said, it's a nice pint, with maize or otherwise.

Cluster hops were traditional but IMO, it's not a great hop. That's why I finish with Styrians now. Not really authentic but hey, that's why we brew right?
 
One point I hadn't considered.

Am I going to be OK putting a lager into a normal beer bottle (in terms of not creating bottle bombs).

Not at all, in fact it is a good way to get enough volumes of CO2. It's a personal taste but I use between 120 to 135g glucose for a 23L brew. Also you can use this
