Well here I am and yet another forum!

Bought beer is so expensive now isn't it? and as I used to make my own many moons (shines?) ago, I think it's time to get the old kit out and do some more. This time my kids who are all in their teens are watching with interest! It don't seem so long ago when I was a teen and making my brews... how time flies! :(

Any way... I'm starting off this evening with a good strong ginger beer after reading a good recipe here last night.

Looking forward to meeting you all on the threads... :thumb:

Hello there LJ and welcome.
A lot of us stopped brewing and started up again, my self included, I had a 16 year break.
I went straight back into AG, but I see you are taking it nice and gentle, oh that I had had the time.
Best of luck, the Forum's always here if you need it.

Hi, welcome to the forum, I too had quite a long break, I did a few kits in my late teens and early 20's, but have now returned and am determined to make the best All Grain beer ever. The problem is I have to keep drinking the trial brews ;)

Thanks for the welcomes... looks like I'm on course for my first disaster! My yeast does not seem as keen as me in starting! 30 hours passed and still no bubbles coming out of the air lock. :( My kids are sniggering already!

30 hrs is no time at all mate , really . How old was the yeast ?What was it ? Did you prove it first in a starter ? Whats the temp in the fermenter ? Did you use any nutrient ?

A bit of time and temperature should do the trick though .Another thought ,being an old hand ,I assume you gave the mix a good old stirrabout before locking down to get a good oxygen load in the water.....?

Oh ,and welcome ! I am another newbie ,been here a month ,and another born-again brewer , back after a break of more years than I recall....and its good here .On the whole people are very forgiving of the kind of basic silly questions that one asks when unsure of ones recollections and there is an immense wealth of knowledge and experience that members are glad to share . Have fun !

Welcome back to brewing..... You'll notice that you'll be able to buy cheaper fresher ingredients...
Try out the forum sponsors for some great malt and hops. :thumb:
