I've just noticed blackberries in a local field and picked some this morning. I was thinking cheesecakes but I found I'd got 750g and then looked for ways to use them.... Lots more are ripening and although it's in a built-up area of South London I think I could quickly gather a couple of kilos without spoiling it for others.

I am new to brewing with one all-grain beer successfully bottled and tasted, and I've never thought of trying wine. But I've seen this recipe The Ultimate Blackberry Wine Recipe | Dorset Homebrew and wondered what's the worst that can happen?

So, can I use frozen blackberries? If so, should I just freeze them whole? Anything I should be thinking about?

Hi.
I pick kilos of blackberries, which go in my freezer. To make wine, I put a kilo in a ziplock bag, let it
defrost, squash berries, refreeze, defrost, squash berries until I’ve got a mush of berries.
Strain thro filter bag, dip filter bag in successive small amounts of boiling water until no more colour
comes out. Add sugar, acid, nutrient, conc grape juice, bentonite, glycerin . Cool , add
RC212 yeast and away you go.

Most fruit it's better for having been frozen as it breaks down the cells and releases more sugar/flavour.
