hello everyone, I was wondering if there was any homebrewers from Norwich/Norfolk on here and what water treatment if any you guys are doing? I live in Norwich and all of my brews have had slight off taste which I think is from our water.thanks john

try looking at your water company's website and get the water report. In the meantime treat all your brewing water with a campden tablet this will get rid of any chlorine tastes in the finished beer

Ring your water company. They should email you an up to date water report then using the data they send input it into the water treatment calculator at the top of this page. I'm in Suffolk just below the border, the water varies so much round here it's worth ringing for the most up to date one.

This is a very old post - but yes I really noticed the difference between my first beer which was all (value) bottled water, and my next which was all tap water and then going back to bottled. I don't really like bottled as feels wasteful but then again only about £2 for 22 litres - but where possible I reuse the bottles to use for 4 pint nights with my beer pump. Need to invest in a filter really. I hate drinking the water here, def worse than London and that was bad. I miss Sheffield water!

I used to holiday in great yarmouth and the water was terrible, a layer of scum on the top of tea & coffee. high in nitrates I was told.

I am told that Norfolk Water is more recycled that London water - as there are not mountains or lakes here, so all piped in or recycled. Shame as otherwise a lovely place to live!

It might be that norwich water is high in alkalinity (like my london water is), so you might only have to buy a salifert alkalinity kit and some acid to strip out the alkalinity
