Northern Brewers recipes - volumes?

N/B have a bunch of downloadable recipes herehttp://www.northernbrewer.com/learn/documentation/all-grain-kits/.

They seem well documented but with the exception of the biab 3 US gallon kits there is no mention of the volumes of water required and this has me at a loss. Are they supposed to be used with some sort of brewing software?

Does it matter how much water you need to start with?

If you need to know, work out the mash liquor based on the grain weight then add in difference to get to boil volume. Lastly, add in any dead space in your mash tun and HLT.

The instructions you have linked to don't say what the brew length is. However, if you go in the shop they say the kits are for 5 gallons. As those are US gallons that will be 19L. That's probably the volume into fermenter as that's the standard US carboy size.

I've done quit a few NB recepies if you get the App iBrewmaster you get loads free with it. Most of the standard AG recepies worked well with BIAB. Download the "calculator" spread sheet from the BIAB forum to give you all the required volumes etc. T
