Ni9e mentioned in passing that he had brewed a beer with NZ Rakau hops, but it had a funny after-taste. as he was coming up to Blackpool for the day I suggested he drop in and leave a bottle . . . so He filled a bottle from the keg, and dropped it in . . . I've had it in the fridge trying to remove the haze, but its being stubborn.

Upon opening There was good hiss showing it had retained some carbonation, and even before pouring the wonderful aroma of passion fruit (A rakau characteristic), which was even more pronounced upon pouring . . . Nice golden colour, and given that it was bottled from a keg we wont hold the haze against him , very low carbonation, but enough to give a prickle on the tongue . . . ideal IMO. Initial tastes revealed a wonderful peach hop flavour, and a good balance between bitterness and malt with a nice body and mouth feel. . . .the taste lingered and had a long finish . . . which was overpowering, and could be described as unpleasant . . . . I suspect a heavy had with the late hops . . . and if this is the case this taste will fade with time . . . Working my way through the pint was actually not that hard, and as I did so so the 'taste' faded, and became a lot less objectionable

All in all a good beer and one I would certainly buy again . . . If I was in a pub that is ;)

Nice review Aleman and good work ni9e

Could you link the recipe?

Thanks for the review Aleman the beer has been fridged now for just on 4 weeks at 0c and its still cloudy :wha: I used s-05 and belive it is troublesome to clear (thats my excuse anyway ;) )

It was the passion fruit flavour which I thought was the off flavour as it was overpowering but its getting more mellow as it ages next time I brew using the hops I will only use a small amount for aroma if any at all :hmm:

Wez i'll put the recipie in the recipie section and i'll call it summer suprise :thumb:
