Hi everyone. This is my first post about my first brew. I have been checking the posts on the site for a while but took the plunge at the weekend and got myself some equipment and started my first brew yesterday. I went for the Festival Ales Razorback IPA which was reccomended by Abbey Home Brew in Leeds. I wanted something similar to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and they said this was the one to go for. I guess you all had the same thing on your first brew - you mix it all up and put it somewhere to start fermenting and impatiently check it every hour to see if anything is happening - that was me yesterday. As you will all know - not a lot did. However, i got up this morning and it was bubbling away nicely every 30 seconds or so at a constant 22 degrees. I am just home now and it is going mad with action every 5-10 seconds. So I guess it is doing its job. I will post how the first brew turns out when it is ready but for now - thanks for all the info I have managed to get just by reading the posts.

All sounds good. From what I've read, Razorback is a pretty full-on IPA. More in your face than SNPA, but gets great reviews.

Added the hops after 5 days. Checked the gravity reading yesterday (after another 7 days) and it is right down to 1.004 from 1.04 so i guess it is almost there. I will take another reading tomorrow and plan to leave it till next weekend and bottle on Saturday. I tried the sample and it is tasting amazing with really good colour. Cant wait to try a full bottle of the finished beer in about 3-4 weeks. As soon as this is bottled i am going to get the Festival Landlord kit on the go.

Back to back brews, that's how it starts. Next thing you know you'll be stocking up on kits and bags of BE whenever there's a sale on. Good luck NickW, I'm sure you're going to have some very nice beer on your hands in the near future.

Bottled this one up last weekend. Tasted great before it went in the bottles so i cant wait to try it in a couple of weeks. I put my second brew on yesterday - Festival Landlord and that is bubbling like mad already! Partial mash next!
