"Hello!"

I'm new to internet forums; this is the first forum I've joined.

I've just returned to homebrew (kits) after a twenty-odd year gap and, having visited this site many times during the last three weeks as a guest, decided it was time to join in.

Perhaps even head towards the mystical arts of AG.

YogiBeer.

Welcome, seems you have a couple of learning curves to negotiate.
You've not picked a bad place to start though!

Hi Kieth1664, thanks for the welcome.

Yep, a few learning curves. This forum seems packed with useful information and opinion and people who've been doing this sort of thing for years; it looks great fun and rewarding :drink:

Hi everyone,

My initial post was a little sparce; didn't know what to type :wha:

I'm looking forward to sampling the Wherry and Smugglers Gold, never tasted them before. I just picked them off the shelf hoping they would be an easy way back into Homebrewing; are they popular?

Never read a book on brewing and if I'm to attempt AG then I presume I'll be hitting the libraries and bookshops; can anyone recommend a good, easy to understand book covering AG from beginning to end?

As for the equipment needed for AG; wow :wha: :)

Hope to chat with some of you experts soon.

YogiBeer.

Hi BB,

AG is where I hope to be in the not too distant future, but lots to learn :hmm:

Hi Wulliemc,
I've never tried wine but having read some of the posts on here I am tempted to try. Any recommentations for an absolute beginner? I quite like: white; Sauvignon blanc, and, red;anything oaky.

I did a Youngs 30 bottle kit of Suavignon Blanc which we quite liked, and so did a few friends who came for dinner. I'm not the best judge on the quality or otherwise of wine, I drink it even if it is petrol, just brace myself accordingly for each swig  . It gave me 30 bottles (OK, 28) to do me until the Wurzels had a chance to get it on. Wurzle's is the terrier's testies :thumb: , and even I with 1 kit behind me managed to make his first batch pain free and have mates clamouring for a taste, or for another taste depending on how much of a mate they were  . I now have 7 batches of wurzels on the go, all varying varieties, with plans this weekend for a 30l of classic wurzels and another 5l batch of pommie granite for variety. check this viewtopic.php?f=48&t=10179 for a great intro, and here for the original posting that eventually brought me to this forum

No, but I can recommend this. :thumb:

Equipment doesn't have to be shiny and expensive, if you have some basic DIY skills you can start out quite cheaply. The Heath Robinson approach might not look as posh but can still make excellent beer.

A new edition of Graham Wheelers Homebrewing book is coming out later in the year, the 1st edition was very good. In the meantime you can learn all you need to know here.

Thanks Wulliemc. :thumb:
The link to Moley’s easy guide to Wurzel’s Orange and Grape wine is very interesting- I’ll get a couple of Djs and see what happens. :) Have you considered brewing beer?

Thanks Dennis, I’ve ordered Graham Wheeler’s book from the library. :thumb:

Cider Minx

Thanks for the link Moley, it’s an extensive and informative guide. :thumb: :thumb:
I’ve bookmarked BrewStew‘s “Your First AG Brew - A Guided Tour”.

His guide is excellent. Life is spooky sometimes, literally 2 mins before I read this post, I was just hinting at mrs mc that I should be giving this a bash, planning a party for end April so beer would be a good addition to the menu.
