New pressure barrel from Wilkos

I've recently bought one of these and can assure you it works fine - just remember to grease it up with vaseline.....

There's an interesting review on Wilco's site regards to testing for pressure, and "tweaking" the PRV with pvc tape to ensure that they hold 15psi, and using a pull-in Schrader car tyre valve, so the pressure can be checked, something I've done on PB's in the past.

I'm aware of that after failings years ago John that's why I've gone to town on my coopers european larger and turned into a belgian larger /ale bomb but yes I think there is no point putting that in a barrel, better in bottles for has long as possible like the wine ha, I've got a bitter to start soon so may get a king keg bottom tap for things like that, cheers John.

I have 5 P/Bs in constant rotation 3 x King Kegs, and 2 x wilco new style 4" cap P/Bs. I have moded all my P/Bs by adding a Schrader valve (to monitor pressure, and allow pressure testing), fitting new rubber seals from new, fitting a cable tie to the s3 input valve (to stop the seal sliding off), doubling over a lengh of insulating tape and wrapping a couple of turns round the blow off valve, then place the safety rubber back over the tape, also replaced the taps on the wilco P/Bs. I can honestly say i have only had a problem with a stripped thread on one of the KKs. All my barrels hold pressure upto around 15psi with no problems. The wilco barrels are great value for money, you cant go wrong.

The wilco barrel on the right is almost full. The KK on the left is almost empty But i do have this punk ipa type clone in secondary Roll on christmas

still don't like those taps but at least by being able to get your hand into the barrel neck you have at least the option to change it to a better tap

Hi, which would be the best tap to get! I have 2 rotokegs which dispense mainly froth if not turned on VERY slightly? Cheers

The best tap i have is on one of my KKs. It's called an Alumasc mk5, its threaded to take sparklers, pours really nice, got it with a 2nd hand keg a few years ago, the standard black KK taps are ok, and you can get them on Ebay for about a fiver

I found a "standard" tap I've used on my other pb won't fit as the Wilko pb tap hole is a sort of inverted nipple and the thread on my tap is too long to seat and seal it.

Your not wrong Clint. You have to trim the shank of the KK taps, i use a fine tooth hacksaw, and take off any burrs with a stanley blade. Dead easy job, just measure it, and trim to length of the original tap.

The only down side that i can see with the wilco barrel is the handle's. I find them pretty hard to lift when full, if they had the same handle's as the KKs they would be perfect.
