Hi, after doing a few kit brews with decent success, iv decided to plunge into BIAB but want some advice.

Can anyone recommend a good boiler so i can make 23L batches.

i did consider a Buffalo 40L tea urn for £96, would this be big enough and do the job sufficiently?

I am also not opposed to constructing my own from a SS pot. however after all the costs i didnt think it would come out much cheaper than the above?

all advise would be welcomed as i'm still new to brewing. Thanks

We're did you find the kettle for that much.. I just use the plastic peco boiler for my brews with inkbird to control temperature and for mashing I put a camping mat around boiler and have made a jacket for it out of radiator reflector stuff holds temperature great

Thank you for your prompt replies.

this was the boiler i had in mind http://www.nisbets.co.uk/Buffalo-Manual-Fill-Water-Boiler-40Ltr/GL349/ProductDetail.raction currently on sale. i believe it just needs a tap and hop strainer upgrade really.

iv seen other people using them with success. due to space restraints i would like to keep new gear to a minimum. do you think it would be a good boiler to start me off?

Looks pretty good alright and not bad price would be worth a try couldn't see why it wouldn't work is it for biab did you say. What do you want hop strainer for

40l buffalo boilers are quite popular as brew kettles and biab brewing, the extra 10l above its compitition make it a a lot more comfortable brewday

the only other mod that may be needed is replacing or bypassing the thermal switch to stop it cutting out during a violent(ish) boil. But thats not tricky or expensive ;)

if thinking biab i would suggest you look at getting or knocking up a lagging jacket so you can rely on heat retention during the mash rather than risk denaturing the bottom grain by applying heat with an element.

happy brewing
