Hello All

Just like to say hello.

My name is John, and I live in Ashton Under Lyne, Manchester.

Started my first brew last Sunday, really looking forward to getting it bottled this weekend coming, then eventually when I can drink it :-)

I've got one of those kits from my local Wilkinson's, so pretty easy to use.

First of many I think!!

John.

Something weird happened there? I don't know where that face came from??

Still, I remember my first brew....it was horrible but i have never looked back! Welcome to the wonderful world of yeast gardening....:))

Hi,
Good to see another Manchester area brewer (I'm in Bolton at the moment). For your information there is a good homebrew shop pretty close to you, on Oldham Road in Middleton, I think the details are somewhere in the homebrew shops section of this forum.
Good luck with the brew.

Thanks all for your welcome's.
(Cheers Richc for that tip, i'll have a drive up).

I've strained them into my bottles, so just have to wait another 2 weeks then I can drink.

Any idea how much the alcohol % of a home brewed Bitter will be? Would be interesting to find out.

I may aim for a 'Super Strength' Bitter next time

Did a bit of a boo boo, when pouring, I miss calculated how many bottles I had, so had to quickly drink 4 pint bottles of ale I had in the fridge, the pouring of the beer when slightly hazy after that, was exciting though. :)

If it's a one-can 'kit and kilo' brew it's likely to be 4 - 4.5% abv.

If you have a hydrometer (which you really ought to) and measure an Original Gravity and a Final Gravity, put those numbers into the forum's calculator (button on the left side of the banner) you can work it out exactly.

Hello all.
Sorry not had internet access for a while, made my first home brew and it turned out pretty well to be honest. So I made a second.

Got a thermometer and a hydrometer, and made all calculations.

My second brew turned out to be 7.4 %, only thing I cant get correct is the clarity of the beer.

I think I may be missing out a step.

But really enjoying making and drinking it, which is the main thing.

John.

Welcome John

I didn't see your post before Christmas. Nice to see another Mancunian on the forum there seems to be quite a gathering of us now.
