Just startted my pale ale extract brew, 55l larger than normal only to hit a leak. So I had to drain boiler with extract in only to find leak right at the top!!!. Anyway back on the boil but i am worried about serious hotside aeration I am afraid there was quite alot. It was either that or throw it away. So i will carry on and hope for the best.

Cheers

Gone from bad to worse. Irish moss put in at 90min instead of 15 and I'm not even drinking.Doh.

I think it is because I am brewing at work. I planned on not doing anything but customers are pestering me.

Ah well better luck next time

Just put some more irish moss in at 15 minutes. I don't think it will have any effect at 90 minutes, or negligible effect before the hot break is secured.

I completely forgot the moss in my brew today, ended up doing a quick 5-minute reheat :) It's for a witbier though so I don't think a little extra clarity will hurt.

Brewing at work .. now there's an idea. I wonder if the Department for Education (or whatever its calling itself this week) would think?

What do you do for a living?

I forgot to add any Irish moss on my first 5 AG’s, ok the clarity wasn’t 100%, but at the end of the day it was still very drinkable beer. And 100% better than any shop brought beer. As James says just add some more during the last 15 minutes and it will be ok.

Hi Tony I am a commercial picture framer i should be framing up 168 picture for a hotel in Hull but i am bored and need ale in my life.

I'm sure you could find space, I did I've 3500ft of it you could fit a fair sized brewery in here. There's a thought.

All put to bed with yeasties doing their bit. It is now in the hands of the yeasties god bless them. It turned out a bit on the week side only 1.044. But as I don't have a site glass I had trouble measuring out volume even though I used a bucket. Need to get my act together next time and perhaps not do any framing (as I intended).

I brew at work so that SWMBO doesn't realise how much i have spent. She seems to think I am adding some hot water from the kettle into a bucket with a few ingredients or something like that. As my neighbour says i should have a big sign above my workshop reading shangrila.

Sounds like it turned out right in the end. Cloudy beer isn't the end of the world unless you are trying to win a competition or something. Besides everybody needs a good brewing disaster story :D
