checked my stout today and is on 1012 , on the instutions it says bottle it beween 1010-1008 after 6 days, when it get to that reading and it before six days is oi ok to bottle. when i bottle , im using 500ml bottles, how much sugar and iv got some brewing sugar left so is it better to use that . cheers jans
ps this is my second brew and im loving it.

I'd leave it for the 6 days take a hydro reading then take another the next day if there the same I bottle on the 7th day brewers sugar is fine to prime the bottles I'd go with just under half a teaspoon per bottle :thumb:
hope this helps

tested my stout again today and it still on 1012 like yesterday, but its only 3 days into brewing, will i get the same reading 2 days in a row and then it will drop again

If it has been at an sg of 1.012 for 2 days in a row then fermentation is probably over :thumb:
But, two days is an awfully fast time for a kit to ferment out in :hmm:
What temperature did you have it at :?:

Ah right that'll explain the speed of ferment then :)
Absolutely correct to follow the instructions that come with the kit :thumb:
The ale supplied with coopers kits is tolerant to a wide temperature range to cope with the extremes in Aus :)
As uk brewers we would tend to ferment at lower temperatures 18 to 20C for ales, this would normally give a cleaner tasting beer

Most probably not but 1.011 is a perfectly respectable figure. The lower the final gravity usually the 'thinner' the beer, more alcohol but less body to it. All of my brews tend to end around the 1.012 mark and I'm perfectly happy with that.

bottled my stout yesterday and just had a look at them and there is some white stuff in bottom of the bottles is it yeast and do i have to give them a shack to mix it up or just leave them :?:

Sounds like yeast to me how much has built up?
just a little in the bottom if i turn one upside down it goes.
and iv just noticed the same in my lager, is this normal for bottles, i guess you get sediment in the bottom of kegs

i tried my lager 10 days after bottling them and priming them and they were ok to drink, its now been 7 days since iv done my stout. what do you think they will be like to drink now . im going to try one tonight and wanted to know what you lot think.
1 really really bad
2 bad :nono:
3 ok but one will do :hmm:
4 think ill have one more just to be sure ;)

So what happened........... :D
it was a "3 "ok but didnt want another , its still quite bitter . i have noticed the home brew twang , my larger has it and so does the stout, dont think its in my head. i didnt do anything to the water , what can i do to it , i think someone said about CAMPDEN TABLETS do have to leave it over night or just add as im starting the brew.

just tried my stout and wow its so much better , no home brew twang, and so much flavour, i would buy this
