My first brew is on! It's an IPA premium kit from Muntons. I'm sure I've everything right: I was meticulous about sterilisation of kit and work surface and I followed the instructions (with some reference to the how to on here) to the letter.

All is bubbling away nicely with one bubble every 10 seconds or so. The only worry I have is that I think it smells wrong. My kitchen has a dfinate eggy/off raw chicken type smell!

What (if any) are the normal smells associated with a bucket of fermenting beer?

Thanks in advance!

Well done! :thumb:

As to the smell, all manner of odors can belch out of an FV. Sulfurous smells are common. My Belgian witbier smells of rotten eggs also! No worries.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease! I think sulphur is the best description of the smell. I have been told by Her in no uncertain terms that brewing beer must have a new place from now on!
