So, I thought I'd go for a hoppy one for my batch 5. Lots of Fuggles and EKG went in at the end, but I bittered with Target and too much Target. I just put 50g of Target into BrewMate and it tells me I'd be getting 70 odd IBUs from that lot. The taste from the FV yesterday as I bottled started out luverly and then became horribly bitter. To those who have left beer longer than I have (I struggle on that front), will the bitterness lose it's edge over time?

Hope so

My first brew was pretty astringent to start with, but that faded over time into something quite rounded. At 70 IBUs, it ain't ever going to be a session beer though!

I did one brew using some "old" hops. I used the whole block (4oz) in a brew and GAWD was it bitter. Left it for a couple of months and it was a nice brew.
So just forget about it till after the summer and drink/brew something else in the mean time.

In my experience target is a thug of a hop but a useful one. I use it in my bitters. I too once had a pale ale which had way to much target in, howver with time (and I mean 6-8 months) it did mellow to a reasonable beer.

As suggested either leave it or try blending it. :thumb:

You know what 70 IBUs are like, right??!! It's the range of American IPAs (the 6.5% upwards ones) and Imperial Stouts, but definitively way beyond a regular, even a very bitter bitter (that would be more like 40-45 IBU).
