My beer is losing flavour not sure why

Recently I brewed a dark mild, it's was ready just in time for Christmas, so that was two weeks carbing in bottles, then two weeks conditioning in the cool. It was amazing, the coffee flavour and aroma from the black malt was lovely. Now after almost three weeks in the cold of the shed the flavour has all but disappeared, I brought it back in for a couple of hours to warm up a bit before drinking. I have no idea why this would be, it just tastes a bit bland.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why? perhaps it's the cold?

Beer does lose flavour after it peaks but I'd suspect your beer hasn't had long enough to warm up to be at it's best, especially if it's been very cold. Bring it in in the morning to drink in the evening.
 
Thanks Cwrw666 I'll give it a try. I hope that's why, quite disappointing as it was so good before. :shrug:

Cask Marque recommends this for cask ales if its any help
"The recommended dispense temperature of the majority of brewers is between 11 – 13°C. Cask Marque audits to a required range of 10-14°C allowing a little leeway."
 
Are you drinking much else at the moment? I've noticed that when I start a porter or other dark beer I can find the roast flavour really full on. If I carry on drinking it I found I just don't notice the roast flavour as much. I don't think the beer is changing, I think my palette adjusts.

Oddly enough I haven't had a beer for three days and just fancied a nice session mild this evening. Iv'e brought a couple of bottles in the house now to try tomorrow.

I store all my English style beers at around 12c, anything less is too cold. My rule of thumb for bottle conditioning is 2 weeks @ 17c, then @ 12c.
 
A cold beer will always have less flavour. I've got kegged beer in my shed at -1c at the moment, as I've no way of warming the kegs up. At pouring it doesn't taste of much, but gradually improves in tha glass as it reaches room temperature. Hopefully your beer will do the same, I love a dark mild!
 
I've noticed the same with my mild that I brewed around the same time as yours, but I bought one in early this evening having read this thread earlier and it's much improved.

Yes it did improve somewhat so I'm going to bring the rest back indoors and just keep in a cool room.

Serve my ales at 12 degrees proper pub temperature for ales, anything cold ruins the flavour and the head retention mouthfeel is totally different.
