Pd has just got me thinking about my tastes in music. Im 49 years old and pride myself on the fact that I have listened to every type of music....but now Im bored. I will listen to anything once, somethings twice, but after that I get bored and keep going back to the same old *****. I understand music, like beer, is down to personal choice, but you can only drink so many IPAs...Bitters...Milds...etc

I too like a broad range of music, but keep playing the same old stuff that I am most familiar with.

I was working late the other night with the radio on in my office and Jo Whiley's R2 show came on. I think she is a few years older than me, but not much and seems to have a similar taste in music. She seems to play many tracks from my long forgotten albums as well as some more modern stuff, but most of it I like. It has made me realise that I need to go back over some of the albums and listen to them again. Since I have started doing that I am listening to some great stuff that I haven't played for ages. I also listen to her show whenever I get a chance.
Certainly makes working late a bit more enjoyable too!

I've gone back to my Hard Rock roots since I started learning the guitar . . .but I have also started listening to the blues, which less face it is the basis of rock and pop anyway. My Guitar tutor will suggest a particular tack to learn . . .and if I haven't heard the group then I'll buy some of their albums, and 'expand my mind man', We were doing a Billy Gibbons Style study the other day, and I picked up the first 10 ZZ top albums for 25 quid, was never really into them apart from their 80's anthems . . .boy they did some great stuff in the 70's really great blues. . .A study of Gary Moore lead me to Peter Green (who I already worshipped), and picked up lots of his work . . .Same for Clapton when he was with the Blues breakers . . . not so much now after all when did a blues player start wearing Armani FFS.

You said the magic words Tony, Peter Green has been my hero since the late sixties think i have most of his music even the more obscure and not so good, yes there is some. The Gary Moore album blues for Greeny dose him proud.

I have a replica of the Greeny Lemondrop Les Paul . . . superb tone

Steely Dan. If you have all the albums including the solo stuff you have something for almost any mood.

One of my desert island albums is Exile On Coldharbour Lane by Alabama 3

Occasionally I re-visit The Allman Brothers, but the fashion was for way too much treble back then

Lately I've been re-checking a lot of Hendrix

I saw him with the splinter group several years back and the only disappointment was he was playing a Fender, just didn't look right.
