Hi All,

I am sure this question has been asked on this forum before so if you could point me in the direction of any tips then that would be great.

I started ferementing my Muntons IPA on the 1st August when I pitched my yeast at 27 degrees C  .

I wasn't sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing but it started to ferment by day 3 and I had a significant scum ring and a good layer of yeast on the bottom of the fermenter, so I assumed that all was progressing quite nicely. The temperature has been a regular 22 degress C under my sink all week and so I thought I would check the gravity yesterday (8th August) as fermenting seemed to have stopped. It measured 1020 (original was 1042)... but I was expecting it to be lower than that... don't know why, maybe because my last brew feremented out in a week and fell to 1012.

Is there any way I can kick start the yeast to see if it will ferment some more or do you think I should wait for another week and re-check the gravity? :wha:

Hi Zig....

I make that ABV..2.8 if I have it correct (I think I do)
don't seem ok to me...I've had the same problem & just given the FV a good stir..keep your fingers X...I've also made up another starter..up to you :thumb:

ps your link to your blog is not working. :wha:

Cheers Diesel,

Will give it a stir up tonight and if that fails then I have some White Labs English Ale yeast in the fridge that I can make a starter with...

Hopefully the link to the blog is now working.

Hey Diesel,

It dropped a little more and ended up at 1014 and was steady for a couple of days so i thought that was good enough to bottle it. :thumb:

I now have 40 bottles of it conditioning under my sink in the kitchen and will check on it this weekend.

Not sure how long to leave it :wha: before I start drinking it in earnest but I probably need to check at least one this weekend in case it's C**P  , at least then I can water the plants and get another one on.

Checked on the bottles last night and the beer looks to be clearing nicely and there is some sediment at the bottom of the bottle.

Also, I gently squeezed a couple of the bottles and they felt as if they firming up nicely so assuming good level of carbonation. :thumb:

Will post some pics early next week of the one I pour out this weekend to check.

Have a happy brewing weekend!

Woo Hoo!!!

Poured one of the beer out last night and it tasted really nice!!! :thumb:

It had a great level of carbonation - just right for my taste.

it's still a little cloudy so another week in secondary should be fine before I move some to a slightly cooler place.

I have a BBQ next weekend so hopefully I can crack some open then.

Cheers Diesel for your advice!
