Hello chaps and (do we have any chapesses?)

I acquired 2.5lb of ripe bullaces and nearly 3.5lb of victoria plums today.

Any ideas on what to do with them? Recipes and the like...

What would *you* do with them?

HM Hi..
Yes we have "chapesses" on the forum. :thumb:

With your plums why not do a basic plum wine.....3lbs fruit..3lb sugar...makes around 1gall ... plenty of recipes on the net..

Ok, I'm confused, what's a Bullace?

Dictionary says “species of wild or semi-cultivated plum tree (Prunus insititia) or its fruit”.
Wikipedia redirected me to Damson (Prunus domestica subsp. insititia), and which says that the damson is similar to the bullace, a smaller, round plum with purple (or yellow) skin.

If that's right, then I'm wondering if the small, dark purple plum which grows in our garden is a bullace.

If that's right, then I use it the same as any other type of plum, 3lbs to the gallon + 3lbs sugar like wot DJ said.

You've got 6lbs of fruit, chuck them together and make 2 gallons.

And yes, we have chapesses, but they are in something of a minority and tend to get scared off or keep a low profile, which is a damned shame.

Yes, it's a small, round plum. I'll try and take a photo of some and upload it!

When I have a spare bucket, I'll definitely get onto putting on 2 gallons of this stuff then! Cheers :)

I'm no expert but I'm told that these are bullaces and that they also come in a darker, redder colour as well.

Yup...
I can remember the old folks called them by that name.....the lanes around here are full at the moment....there are trees in the middle of the roundabout not 150 yards from home.
