Hello all

What to people use for co2 when they are taking beer in corni kegs to parties?

I had been using midget widget from widget world but they seem to have stopped supplying them anywhere.

Happy to buy new equipment.

Cheers for the advice

"Midget widget" (don't Google it!) is no more - again. I'm going to move over to "Sodastream" cylinders too and am waiting for a charging adapter to appear from China. But you do need a bit a knowledge before confidently messing with refilling CO2 bottles at around 850PSI. Naivety works, but might also result in a nasty accident.

Some gas places do 1/2 (and 1/4) size pub bottles (1.5 and 3.15Kg). My supplier doesn't, but does do lighter aluminium pub bottles - still a whacking great lump though.

What do you use as the adaptor/ regulator into the keg?

I use something like my normal regulator. Although what I consider normal isn't what most folk use, I've just picked up one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152968415808, there are others (CO2 Supermarket do something like it) but these have a fixed output (3-5BAR) and will supply something like http://www.shako-online-sales.com/frl/regulators/miniature-regulator-nr200-01-nr200-02.

I'll need an adapter to replace the needle valve on that linked regulator - I've used these in the past https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NPT-Male...nector-/121255605176?var=&hash=item1c3b65b3b8 (1/4 NPT to 1/4 BSP) but need to check the ports on this new regulator.

See https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/co2-management-primer.67424/ for more explanation.

(EDIT: Oops, forgot the Sodastream to W21.8 adapter, so you have something like a "Pub" bottle attachment: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CO2-Cylinder-Adapter-Refill-Connector-Gas-Regulator-Check-DIN-477-W21-8-14/302582586763?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649)

An older regulator, but in the same style. Ignore the 3-way light-blue manifold, the "pin-lock" Corny disconnect (you probably want ball-lock) and all the pneumatic industry fittings and black polyurethane tube (you'd probably be using the usual tubing and John Guest fittings). This regulator hasn't got the solenoid enabler like the earlier posted link - you'd probably not want one either (they are optional). The "Sodastream" adapter (far left) is screwed onto the standard CO2 gas thread (W21.8) on the regulator.

If you've read my "primer" (linked above) you already know these assemblies are good for enormous CO2 cylinders as well as "Sodastream" cylinders - size doesn't matter, only having the right fittings matters.

I would be very tempted to buy one of these modular regulators, it let's you attach a full size CO2 bottle, soda stream bottle or 16g gas capsules (the adapters are 3-7 quid each).
I haven't bought one yet but it does give you a nice flexibility for different uses.

They look very tidy.

But I can't consider changing to them unfortunately. I'll use very low pressures and I doubt those modular regulators will hold down to 10PSI (those NR200s "secondaries" quoted above are good down to 2-3PSI, and I might use variable LPG "secondary" regulators which are good from 2 to 0.75PSI).

What has really got me to make this response: I've put a bit of an error in the facts I was floating about earlier. The adapter I recommended to replace the needle valve is 1/8 NPT to 1/4 BSP. Oops.

That's my next purchase sorted :laugh8:

Need to move on from the Midget Widget....
