need to increase my storage capacity so am thinking of mini kegs as i dont have enough space in the house for a big pressure barrel.

Am currently using coopers PET bottles which i find pretty good, but not sure whether to get more of these or try the mini kegs.

Anyway, do you notice any taste difference between bottles and the mini kegs? I sometimes think ales in cans taste a bit different, but not sure if this is just because its generally cheaper ales that i occasionally get offered in cans.

Secondly, as the dip tube from the top tap goes to the bottom of the keg, do you get much sediment brought up in use, and i guess you have to ensure the beer is really clear before you keg it?

thanks

I notice no taste difference, there will obviously be a difference in carbonation.
I use both 5l keg types and like them both, the dip tube isn't long enough to reach the bottom of the keg so you wont pull sediment up, also the first half a pint tends to be froth due to the excess co2 so I tend to discard that anyway.

i laid a few back for over 6 months, the beer was great, BUT the kegs had only been used once or twice before, and i had used soft string to debung em, and both had rusted within the bungs lips :(..

I have the same issue I rinsed out all my mini kegs I used drained them upside down overnight and recapped them.

I noticed that when I went to use these again to store some barley wine beer that I made for xmas last year they smelt a little tinny and metallic and the hole where the bungs go are rusty.

Nevertheless I bought some more barrels and replacement bungs for them, just made my coopers real ale and decided that I want to drink this when I go camping.

All of the barrels are clean never noticed any rust or odd smells apart from sterile and clean. Been kegs for 4 weeks now went to have a pop at one the other day and the smell and taste is as I can describe rusty and metallic, the taste is not that pleasant I don't like wasting beer but I might have to tip this lot away. My 1st time making coopers real ale kit as I always go for the English bitter.

Any ideas what could have gone wrong guys?
