Anyone know where I can order some of the 5l mini kegs?

I have some on my order with BrewUK but that was placed 3 weeks ago and doesn't look to be arriving anytime soon :/

I use the kegs that have had beer in them eg Adnam's Ghost Ship. They used to cost about £15 in Tesco, I understand. Of course you have to drink the beer first. Don't get Doom Bar, the fittings are different and really hard to remove, also Doom Bar is 'orrible stuff.

Thanks, have thought about using these but 1) I'm not really a fan of the beer that's in them, Speckled Hen and the like and 2) I need a fair few :laugh8:

I know what you mean. I have a mate who comes irregularly from the UK with a couple of Ghost Ships, which I quite like for a session beer. My main collection comes from Schlenkerla. If you like rauchbier then check out their website. They'll pack up to 4 for a single delivery charge.

I might have a look.

Ideally I'd like my order from BrewUK to be processed, it's been 3 weeks now since I placed it

I've just gone over to a corny so have loads of 5L minikegs spare you can have for nothing, where abouts are you?

Hey mate, that's great thank you! I might pick one up from a supermarket as ideally I need them to be unbranded, if I can get the label etc off (not sure if its actually a label or printed onto the keg haha) I'll give you a shout!!

It's not a label as such not sure if it's painted/printed on. The unbranded ones that I have need the party star deluxe tap(posted by @kelper) as there's no tap at the bottom but I have a few Ghost Ship ones.

Just a quick one on this, these arrived the other week and they are great, think they'll come in really handy.

Quick one though for anyone that has uses these,

Will I have any problem filling these from my corny in the future? I individually primed the ones last week but just thinking for the future if I want to chuck some beer from my kegs if I'm going to a party etc. Assuming no issues?

I know at least 2 local microbreweries who have been doing exactly that during the covid period for home delivery. Carbonate in the corny then fill the mini-keg. One also has a blichmann quickcarb which he uses to speed things up.

I personally use a Fass Frisch Party Star Deluxe. They deliver to the UK. 20 Euro minimum delivery charge however you seem to be able to order loads before that changes so in the past I have ordered a load of the 5l mini kegs from them as they have a good selection of styles and reusable parts.

One option is a company called Ampulla they sell packaging material, I.e. glass jars, bottles, cosmetic pots as well as mini kegs.

If anyone needs to order them in bulk (240 on pallets) then these guys have them at £4 each: StackPath

Sorry to jump into this thread but what QED posted has got me thinking. I've recently re-started brewing after quite a number of years and have my first batch in the FV which I'm going to bottle at this stage. For the future I'll probably go down the kegging route and maybe the Cornies are the way to go, we'll see. But the re-usable 5L mini kegs could be an option too as they are easily stored in the kitchen fridge and easily transported to other locations. The kegs are designed to be re-usable and Fass Frisch also supplies PRV's for the mini keg. So would it be possible to use these instead of Cornies to store the finished beer? Racking directly from the "bottling bucket" into mini keg and letting it condition there before serving via the Party Star Deluxe?

Anyone?

@Falco That's exactly what I do. I usually put half my batch in bottles and half in mini kegs. I prime the mini keg just like you would with bottles (usually around 13g sugar for beer) and let them force carbonate. Iuse a mixture of different keg styles;
  • I usually use the kegs with the mini tap with the PRV for stuff like cider and ginger beer
  • For beer I have other kegs with no tap which i'll just put the top release valve on and let it condition and carbonate and then stick the Party Star tap straight in the top when I want to use it.
They are great little containers and really versatile.
