Hi all, I have recently moved from tinned kits to using malt extracts but I have been given a 'geordie mild' kit.
I have had a great deal of success with the geordie bitters but I've found that they need enhancing with orange and spices in the boiled water to take away the twangy after taste. Does anybody have any suggestions or enhancement tips for mild?
regards
BP.

Black treacle! that's it, many thanks I'll give it a go. last year I enhanced a Geordie yorkshire bitter with orange clove and cinnamon. It made a great Christmas ale and went down very well with family and friends.

im drinking the Geordie mild kit now made with muntons enhancer and 2 tablespoons of black treacle.
its not bad at all for a cheap kit :thumb:
Great advice!

I've just started a Geordie Mild kit and also used the black treacle trick, along with Muntons spraymalt and about 50g of dark muscovado sugar. 2 tablespoons of treacle in the fermenter and about 1 tablespoon licked off my fingers (don't worry - my fingers went nowhere near the wort!).

I must have got the water too cold at first as there was a large lump of black stuff at the bottom of the FV. I always stop filling at about 18 litres allowing me to top up with warm if necessary so had plenty of space to add a touch of boiling water to get the temperature up to 22 degrees at which point the treacly lump dissolved nicely into the liquor. Phew.

I'm looking forward to it already! :drink:

My only slight concern is that I could only get a reading on the hydrometer of 1032 at 22 degrees. Would that be because of using spraymalt rather than sugar?

I'm drinking a Better Brew Mild which I added a 1.5kg can Of Coopers amber malt extract to , it's the best Mild I've ever drank .

I've just about polished off the whole of the exact same brew (I might have used muntons extract tho... can't remember). An AG brewing friend of mine got really tucked in, reckoned it was as good as what he makes!!! :thumb:
