I get whatever my missus is upgrading from... I did 33 years in computing but she's the geek! I only do a couple of calls and 3 or 4 texts a month, salesmen hate me.
She just got an iPhone4, seems to like it. Only Voda are reliable in our neck of the woods.

if you have an iphone you have to have all the software to go with it.. I would never have any apple products for that reason, the galaxy s is meant to be a load better plus it is non dependant on apple only rubbish.

Where that was true up to IOS4. The next release of the apple iPhone operating system is going to make the iPhone 'PC free' so registering the phone and all software and firmware updates will no longer require plugging into iTunes, they will all be done over wifi!

@BB I have been an iPhone user since the 3G. I won't get another phone now. I have been an iMac user since Uni and the integration between the two is fantastic. Even I you don't use an apple commuter with your iPhone I would still recommend one. The 4 is fast, reliable and has any app you could need. As for brewing I would recommend all of the apps from Steve Flacks 'Kent Place software'. Brewmath has all the calculations your going to need on a brewday,

Mash calculations
Bitterness
SG corrections
Dilution/evaporation calcs
Pitching rates
Carbonation calcs

It is fantastic. Also his BeerAlchemy recipe software is available on te iPhone for a very reasonable £2.99! :-)

Another factor to consider about an apple iPhone. I dropped mine at work a fee months ago and the speaker stopped working so I could only take calls with the speaker phone. As I have insurance with O2 I rang them and was told I had two options.

1: take it to an O2 shop where it will get sent to a 3rd party to be repaired. I could get a courtisy phone (not a smart phone) but it would cost me rental. This would take unto 14 days for he phone to be sent back to the shop for me to collect.

Didn't like he sound of that! "what's option 2" asks I

2 take your iphone to your local apple store for a replacement.

I Booked my iPhone into my local apple store online (which I did on a Wednesday night). Took it to the meadowhall apple store at allotted time (9 0'clock the next morning). I explained the problem to a member of staff at the "genius bar" (their customer service desk) and within 2 minutes she was handing me a brand new replacement and apologising for the original going wrong! All I had to do was sign a piece of paper thatwas my new proof of purchase for my insurance! Best piece of customer service ive ever had! No ifs no buts, here's your new phone!

i have a HTC desire hd awesome phone, sisters and brother in laws have iphones

but as i read somewhere

iphones are a girls phone as it just works, the android is a blokes phone as it lets them fiddle

my android phone is custom flashed overclocked and absolutely stunning, the wife has the same but hers is standard she loves it as does her friend

personally never base anything on cashback its always nice if it works, i use topcash back but would never bank on it working , if it does brilliant

I do find that orange are pretty good as networks go, never any issues with signal to speak off and I gte my phone and broadband with them too and it works out very cheap indeed... which is always nice!

Couldn't be further from what I've seen of them. SWMBO had a problem with her expensive and at the time less than 3 month old macbook pro (fault due to poor manufacturing on the trackpad). She spent ages on the phone, then booked it in to be repaired. She had to take a day off work and went all the way to Manchester on the train only to be told that the "genius" bar didn't have the part for the service they had booked her in for. Considerable amount of time, and the train fare down the drain. When she went to Manchester again the following Saturday she had to wait for hours to get it because they lost track of the job.

Nothing to add about the phones as I don't use a smart phone. I know people who people really like their iphone especially if they have other apple products as their stuff tends to integrate well together. I know other people, generally my more techy friends, who much prefer android.

Everyone has their own experiences..

A relative who lives in France has a MBP which was out of warranty and completely dead which they asked me to swap the hard drive on as Apple in France couldn't guarantee the data would remain and of course it contained 1000's of photos which weren't backed up.
They asked if I would drop it in for repair as it was cheaper here than in France.
I took it into the Covent garden store at the appointed time and it couldn't be repaired on the spot so it was sent away. It was ready to collect the next day and as a goodwill gesture they didn't charge saving £400.
I on the one hand was happy with the service as it was hard to fault but on the other hand I would expect it to be good for a device that cost over £2000 and was just over two years old.
They could have made it difficult but they didn't which is great customer service. I'm a die hard Windows guy so it is a bit hard for me to say that.

Wheras what I saw was poor service for the next generation of that same device, of similar value (bit less I think) and barely out of the box. They didn't offer any compenstion for her time or the expense of travel. Every company has its good and bad days, which was why I wanted to post a counter example to leedsbrew's experience.

just to add a spanner into the works... i keep reading about the iPhone5 coming out in 3 or 4 months...

What else could it add?
There have been rumours that it will be curvier and I prefer the flatness of the 4.

aparently steve jobs hates buttons so they are going, also has a duel core processor so faster. It may even let you make calls??
