hi again
I've got a Geordie Yorkshire bitter witch I kegged and bottled the excess
the bottles cleared in a few days and tasted very nice the keg is still cloudy and tastes very metalic.
What could cause this ? I adlai kegged a lager at the same time and that was fine so what could I have done wrong ?
Thanks in advance
ben

Sounds like the keg wasn't cleaned / rinsed properly and there are still some syrup residues hanging around :hmm: . . . Was it a new (to you) keg??

The keg was new to me but was reconditioned from brew uk. I steraliser it using vwp then rinsed quite well. maybe not well enough
is the beer ok to drink or you recon it could make me I'll?

Also, as it pulls from the bottom it is common for the first pint or so to be a touch cloudy ( plus it's got further to fall, so takes longer to clear than a bottle ) - have you drawn much out ?

Either way I'd leave it a week or so and try again.

I agree with the previous posts that you should clean your kegs in that way, certainly VWP is not advised IIRC. I use cheap oxyclean and then videne.

Actually VWP and such like are fine to use on stainless steel . . .just keep the contact times to a minimum, and rinse well and you will be fine. Chlorine pitting is not as big an issue as it is made out . . .The real issue is cause by chloride pitting, and is a consequence of the thickeners used in bleaches (Sodium Chloride or common salt) . . .where you have a liquid / air interface you get salt deposition and this strong concentration causes chloride pitting.

Commercial breweries use chlorinated caustic cleanser / sanitisers on stainless steel with little or no issues regarding pitting or crevice corrosion . . . and they have much more to loose should it be an issue.

I've pulled a few more pints off and it's fine now. Must have just been the fist couple with sediment making It taste metalic.
All's well that ends well
cheers guys
