I think the square shape of the cooler is not the best for sparging due to the corners. I found keeping a head of water over the grain during the sparge helped as well as monitoring and maintaining sparge water temp.

Could someone let me know if a pump would be needed to pump hot water through the sparge arm? If not, how do I do it without a pump?

Yes you will need a pump, why not look at a single vessel all in one system, mash recirculate and boil in the one vessel.

On mine 3 degrees on the high side, ie if i want to mash at 66c i set temp at 63, i dont think any of the different makes are accurate, i always use a temp probe to check, other than that i cant fault it
