Its now time for me to think about getting myself another mash tun, as i just cant be bothered to try and repair my old one. I would love to get a thermobox but thats not going to happen just yet. :( So with christmas coming up i was thinking about getting one of these -

The question is, does anyone use them? and what sort of temperature loss do you get over a 90 minute mash?

This is what I use.

£34.99 incl p&p last year.Quick delivery too. :thumb:
It's a hell of a lot cheaper, and you just remove the drain, fit your tap(no re-drilling required) and connect your existing hop strainer on the inside.
I'm only doing 30L mashes at the moment, but next step is bigger mashes, job done.
Oh and it don't suffer from any temp drop in length of mash either.

I use one and it looses no temp over 90 mins if you put a sleeping bag over it but if i needed to replace it i would go with the coleman for the extra space :thumb:

I bought one of these 55L containers (£15 inc del) for use as a boiler.

I'm toying with the idea of getting another one for use as a mash tun. I think I would get a large strong cardboard box (from freecycle) to put it in, and fill the gaps with loft insulation (also from freecycle).

I'm certain it will be - the only reason I'm not getting one for an FV at the moment is that I already have 2 x 5 gal fvs.
