I'm 26 and am another 'miserable old man'. I like brewing, baking bread, golf, gardening, tabletop games such as settlers of catan, risk etc... I enjoy reading classic novels (currently on War and Peace) and i'm about to start two new hobbies. One is cooking (my plan is to cook a new meal and push my boundaries every friday eve) and the other is fishing.

I tried that last year, cooking one new meal a week, it's a great way of trying lots of new dishes. I'd suggest keeping track of what you've cooked and especially noting the best ones so you know which ones to do again and what book/website they were from.

I made it to around October when kitchen renovations killed it off, though some weeks I'd done 2-3 new recipes so probably did the 52 over the year, just didn't keep track unfortunately.

Well. I'm 28 now. Don't really like golf and backgammon etc. but started brewing when I was probably 23 odd from what I remember lol.

I've been drinking real ale since I was 14

Me and my mates were drinking white lightning.....

Friday night out, 2ltrs of white lightning, 10 lambert and a packet of space raiders :drunk:

Those were the days... It was White Knight for us, 2 lts in the fields with 10 bensons, practice our dodgy courting techniques on the womenfolk who were stupid enough to hang about with a bunch of drunken teenage ferals, then down to Victor Smiths for a cheese and onion bap and a packet of space raiders from the garage on the way home. If I was lucky I didn't meet my Dad on the road on the way home from picking up my brother at youth club and have to sit in the car with him whilst stinking of booze!!

I'm 34 which DEFINITELY still counts as young  I laid my hedonistic past to rest when I was about 25 and took up swimming, hiking, allotmenting, gardening, baking (pies!!!), homebrewing, and foraging.... basically if it's been on a River Cottage programme I'm interested. I also developed my passion for scuba diving into a more mature approach to the sport.. my interest first appeared when I realised what party animals divers are!!!

PS: I go to bed at 9 during the week and stay up to the dizzy hour of 11 on weekends because I'd rather having a productive weekend than waste it away with a hangover.
Have to agree totally with this, since our daughter came along it's even more imperative that we get a good night's sleep so 11 on a Saturday night is late!! I love having a whole 2 days to do stuff at the weekend and hangovers just get in the way of that.

It's great to see such a range of ages involved in the hobby. And the way everyone gets on here makes age totally irrelevant. :drunk:

I'm 32, been into real ale since I was 18, I've had a beard for 10 years, I drive a Saab, love walking for fun, prefer books to TV, I'm told that I'm old and boring, I just grump about the youth today not understanding other people's interests  I believe that you should do whatever makes you happy, eventually you'll meet people like yourself and stuff the old "friends "

Well I'm 40 this year, but I did start brewing at the tender age of 14-15. Me and my mates had a cunning plan, if we couldn't get served from the offie then we'd make it ourselves, we also started rolling our own at about that age too (thankfully I gave that up a few years back). I got home from school and asked mum if I could make beer, she said no, obviously, I said I'd just drink my mates across the road, and besides it was good science experiments. We had such a laugh at the time, and if I remember rightly most of what we made was quite drinkable.

Now I live a much more sedentary life, and I'm quite happy. Both me and SWMBO are both into cooking, she has a cake shop in Shrewsbury market, where she makes gluten-free cakes, vegan cakes, all manner of cake really. Making beer is just an extrapolation of my cooking hobby, and I can't wait to get started - this w/e

Well at 36 I still class myself as reasonably young  have started brewing wine, going to give beer a go soon :D drive a saab, love walking and cooking, messing around in the shed or the garage, then just to balance it all out there are the motorbikes just for the thrill of it :D

I'm 30, always used to drink cider or spirits. SWMBO got me into wine, but at £7.50 a bottle for the one I like, I decided to try making my own, and off I went into the brewing sunset!

Still like to think I'm young at heart though, play the guitar and xbox (I can't get SWMBO off of Call Of Duty though), but I do love cooking, and just started baking! The oldness has started to come out in me! And to top it off, just started driving at 60mph on motorways as it saves me a fortune in fuel! :haha:

I'm 28 and love being like an old man, my hobbies and routines are very satisfying to me and I can't be bothered with all the hustle and bustle of modern living, I like things the old fashioned way, I think I was born 100 years to late sometimes, but always always do what makes you happy, even if people take the **** for it cos when you pan bread you'll never have the chance again

I win I'm 9 and have been brewing for 8 years

Joking aside, I'm 29, but only for the next 10 days :drink:

If we were heading to a park or street corner, 8 cans of worthingtons would be the tipple of choice, washed down with sidekick  20/20  or frosty jacks

By the way, I need to change my age. 25 today! going to buy myself a boiler as a present and go AG.

Happy birthday Scott! Have a good un.

I still remember mad dog 20/20, we also used to drink hooch and metz.
We did go through a stag of drinking imperal cheap vodka and if we were feeking flush a couple of cans of special brew

I don't think it really depends when we were born

We are all just Grumpy Old Men

Just let your inner Grumps come out

That definitely seems to be the central theme for brewers
:D
