I have a spare 33lt mango barrel with screw on lid with a rubber seal.
Could this be converted into a pressure keg with the adition of an S30 valve with PRV and a bottom tap?
They are very strong and as stated have a rubber sealing screwed lid.
Im prety sure they would be able to hold much more pressure than a budget keg so would be safe in that respect.

Any thoughts/criticisms please!

if you shine a light through one you will see how thin they are in places.

Do you not think they would take the pressure required for an ale?
We're only looking for around 5 to 10 psi
My barrel is only rated to 15psi and those budget barrels are like carrier bag

I have a similar barrel and the lid does not seal on mine.

I was thinking that could be the case!
More an atmospheric seal so no good at positive pressure :(

Never mind then, just thought i could have used it, gona tip instead then as i don't need the second one.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I don't need it as a FV as i have just been given 4 25lt food grade tubs with sealable lids.

I'll offer it up then :thumb:

Yes, thats what i have, 2 tesco kettle elements and a 15mm ball valve. ;)

Just ring round your local indian takeaways/restraunts and ask them if they have any spare.
Thats all i did, they just bin them after use!

Thats alot of wort to have boiling in a plastic barrel.
Don't think i'd risk it myself, 60lt yes but 220 noooooooot for me. :nah:

Thats what I did, just popped into my local, only problem is that as already noted, they do not seal again, unfortunate as they do have the nice rubber seal, having had a closer look, I think they might have clips to seal them, ill ask when I collect the next one..also, how do you clean them out ? Dont fancy mango ale

I cleaned mine out with boiling water and a load of bleach leave for a week and repeat.
Then empty rinse and leave open "outside" for a for a week or 2 and the smell goes ;)
