I think Norman Lamb has some interesting ideas regarding the funding of the NHS. I'm not a Lib Dem by any stretch but I'm happy to recognise a glimmer of sense when I see one.

Lib Dem health spokesman and former minister under the coalition Norman Lamb sets out his party's plans for the NHS.

Initially, he says, they want to put a penny in the pound on income tax for everyone to raise about £6bn a year.

Longer term, Mr Lamb says he would introduce a dedicated health and care tax - a so-called hypothecated tax - which would be designated as such on people's wage slips.

An independent body would decide the level of that tax, he adds, to take "to-ing and fro-ing" politicians out of it.

I said in another thread that I would pay more tax if it was guaranteed to be put into the NHS and care and I doubt many that could afford it wouldnt feel the same.

Those who can afford it go Private - so they don't care.

For the record a good friend of mine works in counter terrorism for Birmingham and he says the amount of leads and links to terrorism is frightening, they are literally everywhere. if it became leaked the whole country would melt down in panic. I believe without too much details the leads are small time little evidence to trying to crack the big time I dunno??

Lets say my friend is telling the truth and there is no reason why he isn't how do you deal with that??

leads and links, that's no surprise to me, COV. Kevin bacon explains it all.

It's all a case of prioritising resources and there will always be the chance a more imminent threat is lost in the noise of surveillance.

If you consider a forgotten password being sent to you via email, for whatever on line service you use....

The service provider has emailed a temporary password to you - that is insecure and can easily be intercepted by hackers. However, they normally give an expiry date to log on with this, usually 24 hours.

This is because whilst your temporary password can be intercepted :( it would just be 1 of millions of emails 'intercepted' and by the time the miscreants try to use it, it's either expired or you've changed it. So, essentially it's been lost in the noise. Or if you're a human league fan - It's just one voice in the 'sound of the crowd'

It seems to me those who shout the loudest about lowering taxes are those who are the richest in society. Those with lots of money may argue,if a penny goes on income tax they would be paying more as they earn more but because they are rich dont use the communal facilities as they can afford to pay privately. However because they are rich they seem to have the loudest voices (I'm not aware of any benefit claimants who own newspapers for example) but they still do use other community facilities such as roads. However my opinion is is you want to live in the uk you need to contribute to the Uk. If you dont want to pay tax, go and live in the cayman islands

What I meant was those that can afford to pay a little extra not those that are so well off they do not have to rely on the NHS.

I'm a cynical old s#d and just find a lot of this public outpouring of grief a bit over the top(stands back awaiting plenty of flack) with all the flowers , soft toys and mass gatherings.I also note that other 'stars' are jumping on the bandwagon along with the original singer 'to show their support and raise funds' Mmmmmm ok!-cynical me again.
Why the tv have to repeatedly name every single casualty along with what they did and how well they were thought of is a mystery to me along with repeated coverage of what the b####y bomber looked like ,what he did ,where he had been.
The rest of the 'gang' for want of a better word must be relleshing all the extended media coverage. Not saying it shouldn't be reported,it should but don't feed the b######s.

I can only agree, chub. This is all fuelled by traditional media, which is dying on its arse in the face of new media like social media. What better way to flog more newspapers and get people tuning in to radio and tv than to prolong the whole thing as long as possible by looking into every minute aspect. It's the 'traditional' equivalent of click bait

On a purely numbers game, 3500 people die on British roads EVERY DAY. The only time I ever see anything about this is when the road safety organistions do a campaign. You dont hear anything about it in the papers becasue it doesnt sell papers. Unless there is a truly horrendous accident e.g massive mutiple pile up.

That road death no didn't sound right so checked wikipedia and the highest UK road deaths ever was 9169 a year in 1941 and never went over 2000 a year since 2009. Even total injured is only 500 per day with a huge majority described as minor injuries. But I agree with theres something wrong with the whole mainstream news reporting.

My appologies. Double checking, I think that figure is globally rather than UK road deaths. Its' from this capaign http://www.fia.com/3500lives, which I keep seeing posters for

But even so several hundred a year in the UK is far more than any terrorist attack we will ever have
