Have managed to get hold of some pale malt(pearl) from a friendly local brewer.Thing is it isnt crushed, and I dont own a mill/grinder.Can I do it myself in small batches with a rolling pin? Also, would this malt be ok for pale ales/lagers or is it a strictly ale malt? Thanks fellas.

You can use a rolling pin, use a zip lock bag and crush in parts. It'll be tough but can be done.

It could go one or two ways, don't crush enough and your efficiency suffers. However you crush it too much and you'll have issues with Tannins.

Good luck!

Cheers scot, its difficult to know how much to crush it.Have compared some I crushed with sime crushed crystal I had allready.Got it to about the same level, but are specialist malts crushed more or less to the same grade as base malts?Off to the garage in a bit with a rolling pin!
