Hello chaps!
Question regarding temperatures....
My house is hotter than Satan's Anvil. It's hard to get down to the 20C that I would like to ferment my Wherry at. I would use the shed, but I think the temp will be a bit more erratic in there, obvs with day and night. And I'm guessing with the weather getting warmer, I'll never reach the 20C without fridges of some sort. Also, clearing temps of 14-14C, I'd have no chance... Anyone got any recommedations? What do you guys do?
Thanks muchly!

turn your heating off for summer...... :D

Finding correct temps in summer is the bane of the brewer
Finding correct temps in winter is the bane of the brewer

A temp controlled cabinet is the bees knees and to be aimed at.

You need a brewing plan.
Mine is to brew lager in the winter enough for the summer and spring and autumn brew beers and ales and have the summer off.
Of course you need enough kit but if you have...

Hi Cooks - have you got space for a brew fridge? Power to the shed maybe? A second-hand fridge, heating tube and temp controller isn't an expensive or difficult project if you've got the space.

£3 wilkos gardeners trug, around 40 litres. Put the fv in that and surround with water and you'll at least even out the day/night swings quite well, though it won't sort the problem if the ambient temperature is miles off.

Or a brew fridge...

Looks like a brewfridge is the way to go... Can anyone point me in the direction of any info? Brew Fridge is giving quite a few search results... :)

I find that if the ambient temp is around 22-25 then a bath towel regularly soaked in cold water and wrapped around the fv can keep it around the 18-20 degree mark.

To get to lager temps though it would have to be a fridge i think.

Did a parti-gyle imperial stout and small stout yesterday, pitched the yeast last thing last night and left them in the bath, this morning I woke up looked at the ambient temp and it was already 20oC. Needless to say the pair of them are now sat in the bath full of cold water to try and keep the temp stable(ish).

I'm struggling to get constant colder temperatures for conditioning at the moment, temps are a bit steadier (around 10 degrees) at night in my garage but during the day has been rising to 20-22 degrees :(

How badly does this affect the conditioning being so up and down each day?

My house is hotter than Satan's Anvil

I've got the opposite problem in that my house is FREEZING! Between me and my housemates I'm the only one who can afford oil atm so there won't be heating any time soon :/

Was considering buying one of those brewers belts for my fv. Atm I have a large container filled with water being heated by a fishtank heater, took a reading today to find out my ciders been sitting in 10 degree water for the last 2 weeks >.<

A mini-fridge is a good idea to get the temp down. Try asking local hotels if they have some left over / discontinued mini-bars.
