Has anybody notice lack of bitterness when using a mesh hop spider in the boil?

I usually brew with an IBU of 45 or a lot more. My last 2 brews should have been 60 IBU's +, but have the bitterness of lager. I don't like lager:(

I think you lose about 10% if using a spider...I use a mesh bag and everything seems to work ok. I give it a good prodding during the boil and swill it around a bit though.

I only bought a hop spider a month or so ago, used it a couple of times, and I found that it just clogged up and the wort wasn't flowing through it. I could even lift it out of the wort and would only partially drain. I dunno if my wort is particularly trubby or if the size of the mesh is too small, but I had a right old time with it. Might go back to the trusty mesh bags.
