Guys,
I have b*****erd up again, this time using a simple Coopers lager kit! .
Boiled up 2 litres of water in a pan and added the thick canned syrup wort and a kilo of brewing sugar, boiled up then poured into fermentor and brought up to 23ltrs with cold water.

Showing 1.020 at a temp of 50oF. Should I put another 1kg of sugar in to bring it to the correct Gravity?

Pete

why not just follow the instructions?

2 litres of boiling water into the FV, add contents of the can and 1k of sugar and mix well.

Then add cold water to top up it up. Add warm water if need be to get the temp at around 21 degrees.

Then take the hydro reading.

I dont understand why you boiled the contents of the can?

Are you getting all of the syrup out of the cans?? There's no way you should be getting them low readings?

Stupid question you do know how to read the Hyrdometer?

Sorry but that's ridiculous, a kilo of sugar in 23 litres would give you 1.015 without the contents of the kit. :wha:

Thanks,
Warmed it up to 25oC and gave it a good stir, its now showing 1.030! Ill lob 500g of sugar into it for luck.

Don't take this the wrong way m8.......
Take a bit more care and you might get better results.????

Before adding more sugar, give it a really good stir - you may have a layer of thick sugary stuff at the bottom so reducing the SG of the rest :hmm:

I wouldn't add any more sugar as it will mess up the balance of the beer. 1.5kg of sugar in a kit is just going to taste boggin' (especially as you appear to have doen something wrong along the way).

If you really need to beef it up I would add a half kilo of malt extract which will give some body as well as the extra fermentables that you are after.
