I'm in a bit of a pickle, and need a little advice on keeping my FV cool. just clocked my razor back IPA at 28 degrees

It's only day 2 of the ferment, currently it has a damp towel wrapped around it with the fan on full pointed at it, will this be enough to do the job?

Had the FV not got a tap on the front it would be in the bath right now, regardless of the moaning, priority's and what not:grin:

Stick it in the bath on top of something to keep the tap off the bottom and deal with the consequences later!!

Cheap ice packs for cool boxes bungied around the side?

I use old 2L PETS full of tap water frozen solid. I swap them out ever 12 hours. So far, brew is maintaining a nice 19.5' degrees (PC fan assisted in an enclose & insulated box). Heater will kick in at 18.5' degrees (unlikely!!).

Need the freezer space for the bottles of course...

I've just checked mine expecting it to be through the roof and its sitting in the garage at 20, the trug full of water has done exactly the opposite of what it's been doing for the last 9 months and is now keeping it nice and cool.

Could you give a bit more detail on your method Bill? Do you stick the FV in builders trug water bath or something

Actually, that would be even better but 'air' cooling is working fine for me atm (it is a well insulated box):

@baggybill Sorry bill, I'm not sure what im seeing in the piccy. Is that some sort of fermentation chamber? You just leave an ice pack on top of the the FV and a 2L frozen PET bottle next to it?

Well, apart from the door (with 1" of Jablite insulation) being off for the photo, then yes.

That's the white greenhouse heater at the back, PC fan above it (on all the time just now) and the frozen water bottle at the front, cooler pack on top of FV. To the far right, you can just see the probe(s) for the STC 1000 and a separate min/max thermometer (so I can find out what it's doing temperature wise when I'm at work etc.)

To the left, the STC controller monitors the temp, set at 19.5' degrees. If temp drops to 18.5' degrees, heater will switch on. Heater will then switch off at 20' degrees. It's never happened... fighting to keep it cool, was at 20.9' when I came in from work at 16:30 (hence the addition of the cooler pack on top).

To the bottom left is the min/max thermometer which tells me how successful I am when not there. So far, so good - tomorrow will be a test!! :D

Edit: Added pic of door in place for @MyQul

Thanks for the info bill. I'll just have to stick with free fermenting with heat tolerant yeast due to lack of space and non existant diy/elctrician skills
